Jersey Milk says price differences are inevitable

Abby Hosegood claimed the high cost of Jersey milk had forced her to get it from the UK.

Jersey Milk managing director Kevin Keane said the difference in price between milk in Jersey and the UK was inevitable because of the company's financial problems.

Mrs Hosegood said: "Buying milk on the island locally is a much higher cost than me sourcing it from a dairy farm - an organic Jersey herd - in Cornwall."

Production costs

Mr Keane said the cost difference between Jersey and the UK was unavoidable due to the problems facing Jersey Milk.

"We are having to recover some of the cost of producing and purchasing the milk from islanders.

"The dairy has suffered and we are having to change, and when we change completely, hopefully that might mean lower prices for milk."

However, Mr Keane is hopeful prices will come down after a review of the company is completed.
