Dean withdraws expenses motion
Jersey church
In the past the bill has been met, in part, by the Madeleine Trust
Churchgoers in Jersey will not be asked to pay more to support the work of the island's Anglican church leader.

Funding proposals put forward at a synod meeting last year asking churches to raise more money to cover the Dean's expenses have been dropped from their latest agenda.

Jersey's Dean, the Very Reverend John Seaford, incurs expenses of around 4,500 each year while fulfilling his duties as the Head of the Anglican Church in the island.

In the past the bill has been met in part by a local charity, the Madeleine Trust.

Motion withdrawn

This year, trustees felt low investments made it impossible for them to pay the bill.

They put forward a motion asking the island's Anglican churches to pay an annual contribution of around 1,000.

But the Dean has now withdrawn the motion from the agenda saying he will deal the matter of expenses personally.
