Recruitment boost for island police
Police
The States of Jersey Police now has a full compliment of 242 officers
Jersey's police force has been brought up to full strength for the first time in more than three years.

Seven new police recruits have joined the ranks this week, but will spend the next four months on an intensive training course in Kent.

The past few years have seen a rollercoaster ride in police numbers - as they have fallen substantially.

But now they have begun to rise again following a determined recruitment drive.

Probationary period

The States of Jersey Police now has a full compliment of 242 officers.

The seven new officers have to successfully complete a two-year probationary period before becoming fully- fledged police officers.

They should be out on the beat on Jersey's streets by the summer.

Deputy Chief Officer Roly Jones says a new recruitment drive has already begun to encourage applications for a second intake of new officers in October.
