Licensing laws receive shake-up
Public bar
Pubs will be able to stay open until 0045 GMT under the law changes
Guernsey pubs will be able to stay open until the early hours of the morning in a historic shake-up of the island's licensing laws.

The States have agreed to relax the licensing laws seven days a week, allowing pubs to stay open until 0045 GMT.

The move to introduce late-night opening and all-day drinking on a Sunday followed a day of debate in the States.

Despite fears extended licensing hours would mean more disturbance for residents, especially for those living near pubs or clubs, politicians voted in the changes by 28 votes to 17.

Off licences will be able to stay open until midnight and publicans will still be able to apply for an extension to their hours.

The House rejected an amendment to allow nightclubs to stay open until 0245 GMT.

The legislation has to be drafted before the changes can take place.
