Tenants urged to attend forums
Houses
The meetings give people a chance to voice their concerns
Nobody will pay more than they can afford under proposals for increased rents and rebates in Guernsey's States houses.

That is the message the Housing Authority was keen to stress at the first of four public meetings being held to explain the proposals.

About 20 residents attended the meeting at the Wesley Methodist Church in Le Bouet on Monday night to air their grievances and ask questions about the proposals.

The Vice-President of the States Housing Authority, Deputy Dave Jones said it was a good opportunity to allay people's fears about the new scheme.

"Everyone will only pay what they can afford to pay, that's what the policy letter says," he said.

"There will be a maximum of 25% of anybody's income, regardless of what that is."

Former member of the States House Tenants Association, Deputy Leon Gallienne said it was vital tenants read through the paperwork regarding the new scheme, so they will be armed with all the details they need for asking questions.

"They should attend the meetings so they can hear from the horse's mouth how the proposals will affect them.
