Future BBC to be 'smaller'

The BBC has confirmed that it is closing two digital radio stations, and a significant part of its website. Fewer programmes will be imported, and there will be a spending cap on sports events.

The Director General, Mark Thompson, says the changes will allow the corporation to invest almost £600m in quality programming.

Planned cutbacks include the closure of the radio stations 6 Music, and the Asian Network.

And there would also be a 25% cut in spending on the BBC's website.
