Florence and the Machine have also been nominated for the Mercury prize |
Florence and the Machine, Pixie Lott, Tinchy Stryder, The Saturdays and La Roux are all in the running for a top prize at this year's MTV Europe Awards. The nominees will go head-to-head in the best UK and Ireland new act category at this year's MTV Europe Music Awards in Germany. Grime vocalist Stryder is the only solo male up for the prize. The winner will be chosen by the public who can vote online and will be announced on 12 October. Chart success Viewers will be able to vote on the MTV Europe website between 1 September and 11 October. The winner of that award will then battle it out with acts from over 20 other countries to become the best European act, voted for by MTV viewers. This result will be announced at the MTV Europe Awards on 5 November in Berlin. The nominees were chosen by MTV music experts from the UK, the US and Europe. Electro-pop duo La Roux and soul-inspired indie outfit Florence and the Machine have recently been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. Lott, 18, scored a UK number one with her debut single Mama Do earlier this year, while The Saturdays' hits include Up, Issues and Just Can't Get Enough. Stryder, the so-called "prince of grime", scored his second number one single in the UK in August with Never Leave You.
