Button stitches up UK box office

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button won three Baftas on Sunday night

Epic Brad Pitt film The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button has gone straight to the top of the UK box office.

The Oscar-nominated movie, co-starring Cate Blanchett - which tells the story of a man who ages backwards - made �2.2 million on its opening weekend.

It beat romantic comedy He's Just Not That Into You, which took �1.9 million, into second place.

Multi Bafta-winning Slumdog Millionaire dropped from first to third place, taking �1.6 million.

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button had been nominated for 11 awards at Sunday night's Baftas, but walked away with just three.

Pitt, who was at the ceremony with partner Angelina Jolie, missed out on best actor.

It is the frontrunner for this year's Oscars with 13 nominations, including best picture.

He's Just Not That Into You - based on a self-help book of the same name - features an all-star cast.

It includes Scarlett Johansson, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston and Drew Barrymore.

Tom Cruise film Valkyrie dropped from second to fourth place, taking �632,463.

And Revolutionary Road, which stars Bafta winner Kate Winslet as a frustrated housewife living in 1950s America, dropped two places to number five, taking �508,956.

Other new entries in this week's top 10 include family adventure The Secret Of Moonacre, which took �308,099 in seventh place.

Doubt, starring Meryl Streep as a stern nun who suspects a priest of abusing a pupil in 1960s New York, was in 10th place, taking �253,097 on its opening weekend.
