Franz Ferdinand will play tracks from their latest album |
Franz Ferdinand, Glasvegas and The Cure - recipients of 2009's Godlike Genius award for outstanding contribution - will perform at this year's NME awards. New band Friendly Fires will open the show on 25 February backed by Latino percussionists and show girls. Legendary post-punk band The Cure will close the event with a 30 minute set. Comedian Mark Watson, announced as the show's host, said "I look forward to saluting some of rock's most exciting, innovative and drunkest people." Oasis lead the nominations for the awards with seven nods, including best and worst band. Scottish act Glasvegas are up for best new band against Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Late of the Pier and White Lies. They are also up for best album, but will have to see off Oasis' chart-topper Dig Out Your Soul to win. The winners will be announced at the show at London's Brixton Academy.
