Street's Blanche star in hospital

Blanche Hunt is the local busy-body in the show

Coronation Street star Maggie Jones, who plays battleaxe Blanche Hunt in the ITV1 soap, is recovering in hospital after injuring herself in a fall.

The 73-year-old hurt her shoulder and knee after falling over at a Manchester hotel where she stays during filming.

Jones is expected to be back at work in around two weeks, a spokesman for the programme said.

"She is loved by everyone, and the cast and crew wish her a speedy recovery and hope to see her soon," he added.
