Reality TV star and former pop singer Kerry Katona has given birth to a baby boy five weeks early.

Maxwell Croft was born on Friday evening, weighing 5lbs 4oz, at a hospital in Macclesfield, Cheshire.

A spokesman for Katona, 27, said: "Mummy and baby are doing well and the family are very excited about their latest addition."

Katona already has one daughter with husband Mark Croft, and two children with singer Bryan McFadden.

Induce labour

The former Westlife star and Katona separated in September 2004. She married taxi driver Mr Croft on Valentine's Day in 2007.

Six days later, she gave birth to their daughter a month early, Heidi Elizabeth.

Mr Croft was at the hospital for the latest arrival, who has been named after publicist Max Clifford.

Katona has been in hospital since Wednesday when her waters broke, and doctors had given her medication to try to halt contractions.

But the decision was taken on Friday lunchtime to induce labour.

The pregnancy has been an eventful one, with fears just after Easter that the former Atomic Kitten singer was suffering from pre-eclampsia, a condition which causes high blood pressure.

However, this was later discovered to be water retention and very low iron levels.
