Adele's album 19 went straight to the top of the UK chart
Teenage soul singer Adele has signed a deal to release her debut album 19 in the US through Columbia Records.

In a joint venture with XL Recordings - Adele's worldwide label - the 19-year-old's album will be released in the US this summer.

The album went straight to the top of the UK chart when it was released in January, while her single, Chasing Pavements, reached number two.

The singer is currently in the middle of a short north American tour.

"She wants to work it properly, and put in time there," XL boss Richard Russell, told Billboard magazine. "People are really excited about her over there."

In December, Adele became the first recipient of the Brit Awards' Critics Choice prize - given to the artist "most likely to make it big in 2008".

She was also named the most promising new music talent in the BBC's Sound of 2008 poll.
