Teenage singer-songwriter Adele has won the inaugural Brit Awards' Critics' Choice prize for the artist "most likely to make it big in 2008". The soul singer, 19, from London, was picked by a panel of music experts from newspapers, magazines, TV and radio.
She will collect her award at the Brits on 20 February after being championed by Jools Holland and Jo Whiley.
The Critics' Choice award was open to artists signed to a label who are set to release their debut albums in 2008.
Adele released her debut single Hometown Glory in October as a limited edition. Her second single Chasing Pavements will be out in January.
The BBC News website's own annual poll of music critics and broadcasters to highlight the best new talent for the coming 12 months is now in its sixth year.
