Ronson has been included for Valerie, while Grace Kelly by Mika and Take That's Shine completed the nominees.

But the final shortlist has angered the Kaiser Chiefs, whose single Ruby was knocked out in the early stages of voting.

"Everyone knows Ruby is the best single," singer Ricky Wilson told BBC 6 Music.

"If you are gonna whittle them down to five, you'd think Ruby woud be in there wouldn't you?

"I am just a bit annoyed."

Meanwhile, organisers of the Brits have confirmed that Doctor Who star David Tennant and Lord of the Rings actor Sir Ian McKellan will be among the celebrities presenting awards on Wednesday.

R&B singer Kelly Rowland, Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto, actor James Nesbitt and BBC Radio 1 breakfast DJ Chris Moyles are also lined up to announce the winners.

There will also be two stages at Earls Court in west London to mark the theme of "glam versus punk".

The glam stage will feature golden drapes and a curtain of lights, with a ripped Union Jack on the punk stage.

Between the two will be thrones on which the show's presenters, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, will sit.
