Gareth Gates was awarded 24.5 points by the five judges
Former Pop Idol runner-up Gareth Gates has become the latest celebrity to be kicked out of ITV1's Dancing on Ice.

The 23-year-old was unanimously voted off by judges in the skate-off against Coronation Street actress Zaraah Abrahams in the show's semi-final.

Judge Jason Gardiner said Gates' dance, to Bon Jovi's Living On A Prayer, was "not a semi-final performance".

Abrahams will join Hollyoaks actor Chris Fountain and ex-Hear'Say singer Suzanne Shaw in next week's final.

Gates and his skating partner Maria Filippov were awarded 24.5 points out of a possible 30 for their performance, which included six lifts.

"Gareth came out and started this routine. It was amazing. You were sharp. You were on it," Gardiner said.

"Slowly but surely though the whole routine got away from you. You were playing catch-up. Your arms let you down."

On hearing the results, Gates said: "I have fought out there and that is all I could've done. It's been fantastic and I love Maria to bits."
