Radiohead released their latest album online in October

Rock icons Radiohead are up for the pop prize, alongside Arctic Monkeys and folk singer Linda Thompson.

In the TV drama category, Doctor Who will do battle with Channel 4's The Mark of Cain, about UK troops in Iraq, and Boy A, about a former child killer.

Hot Fuzz is up for best comedy, alongside BBC Three's Gavin and Stacey and Alan Carr Tooth Fairy Live.

But it is not in the film category - that award will go to Atonement, based on the Ian McEwan novel, Joy Division story Control or Shane Meadows' This Is England.

Arts spectrum

Artist Mark Wallinger, who recently won the Turner Prize, is in line for another award in the visual arts category.

Author Mohsin Hamid has two nominations for his Booker-shortlisted novel The Reluctant Fundamentalist.

He is on the shortlists for the literature prize and the Arts Council England's Decibel Award, which "recognises work that contributes to the development and promotion of black and Asian arts".

The South Bank Show claims to have the only ceremony to span "the entire spectrum of the arts", with trophies for theatre, classical music, opera and dance.
