Chuck wins UK box office battle

Romantic comedy Good Luck Chuck has won a close battle to top the UK and Ireland box office chart.

The film, starring Jessica Alba, took �1.3m. It ended Disney animation Ratatouille's four-week reign, and it fell into third place with �1.25m.

Fantasy film Stardust moved up one place, securing the number two spot with �1.28m.

New entries on the chart include Tom Cruise's Lions for Lambs at six and drama Into the Wild at 10.

Unchanged at four was Cate Blanchett's Elizabeth: The Golden Age, while horror film 30 Days of Night fell three places down to number five.

After three weeks in the chart, slasher film Saw IV and David Cronenberg's Eastern Promises both fell three places to eighth and ninth position.

Two Bollywood films entered the top 15, with Om Shanti Om at seven and Saawariya at 12, even though each was shown in less than 55 cinemas.

Simon Pegg's comedy Run, Fat Boy, Run, directed by Friends star David Schwimmer, was knocked out of the top 10 for the first time in 10 weeks, after taking �10.9m to date.
