Michael Parkinson is to leave BBC Radio 2, where he has presented a weekly programme, Parkinson's Sunday Supplement, for the past 11 years. The 72-year-old announced earlier this year that he was ending his ITV1 chat show so he could pursue other TV projects and write his autobiography.
"I wish Michael well," said Radio 2 controller Lesley Douglas, who praised his "many years of great service".
It is not yet known when his final show will be broadcast.
His chat and music programme features jazz and easy listening tracks.
Established in 1996, it has also offered guests from the worlds of entertainment, arts, sport and music.
Regarded by millions as the king of the chat show, he first hosted his celebrity interview TV programme in 1971 on the BBC. It moved to ITV in 2004.
