Morrissey plans to release a new album next year

The 48-year-old star opened his residency on Monday night, singing songs from throughout his career.

But promoter Live Nation said the problem at the venue led to Tuesday and Thursday nights' gigs being scrapped.

Tickets for the cancelled shows can be used at either the 8 or 9 October performances, or returned for a refund.

Morrissey will next take to the stage at the 4,000 capacity venue on Friday.

His last show is set for 13 October. The 67-year-old venue is then scheduled to close for a complete overhaul.

Solo career

Morrissey's Hollywood shows are part of a US tour that includes five nights at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York later this month.

He has been on the road with his band for the last 18 months and will close the 177-date tour in Washington on 8 November.

Morrissey first found fame with indie group The Smiths, whose acclaimed albums, including The Queen is Dead, regularly feature in critics' all-time best lists.

They split up in 1987, after which Morrissey launched a successful solo career, with hits such as Suedehead, We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful and Irish Blood, English Heart.

His most recent album, The Ringleader of the Tormentors, reached number one in the UK in 2006.

He told the BBC News website that he plans to release a new album in 2008.
