Morrissey's most recent album is Ringleader of the Tormentors

The six-week stint kicks off in Las Vegas on 21 September and draws to a close in Washington DC, on 8 November.

Morrissey was forced to cancel several US gigs earlier this year after contracting a viral throat infection.

These shows, including one at New York's Madison Square Garden, have not been rescheduled for the autumn tour.

Morrissey, 47, first found fame with indie group The Smiths, whose dark, brooding songs and social commentary on issues such as vegetarianism won a devoted following.

The band also released a series of acclaimed albums, including The Queen is Dead, which regularly feature in critics' all-time best lists.

They split up in 1987, after which Morrissey launched a successful solo career, with hits including Suedehead, We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful and Irish Blood, English Heart.

His most recent album, Ringleader of the Tormentors, went to number one in 2006.

In a recent interview with Word magazine, Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr raised the possibility of releasing a box-set of the band's material, including "curios, instrumentals" and music from their scrapped first album.
