Snoop Dogg's hits include Drop It Like It's Hot and Signs

The broadcaster said the show would be "hilarious and heart-warming" and would show the rapper balancing family duties with the world of hardcore hip-hop.

The 35-year-old star, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, has three sons and runs a youth American football league.

But he has also had several run-ins with the law and was refused entry to the UK and Australia earlier this year.

He was forced to cancel concert dates in London and Manchester with fellow rap star P Diddy in March after he was refused a visa.

'Juggling act'

The following month, Australian immigration officials banned him from the country because of a US court case where he pleaded no contest to gun and drug charges.

As a result of that case, he was given five years' probation and was ordered to carry out 800 hours community service.

"The juggling act that Snoop faces day-in, day-out between career and family is certain to resonate with our viewers," said Ted Harbert, president of the Comcast Entertainment Group, which operates the E! Entertainment channel.

As a rapper, Snoop Dogg has racked up several platinum albums including his debut, Doggystyle. His hits in the UK include Who Am I (What's My Name?), Drop It Like It's Hot and Signs.

He was born in Long Beach, California, in 1971 and derives his stage name from a childhood nickname, based on a supposed resemblance to cartoon character Snoopy.
