Disturbia, a thriller about a teenager who thinks his neighbour is a serial killer, has remained North America's number one film for the second week.

It held off drama Fracture, starring Sir Anthony Hopkins as a man accused of murdering his unfaithful wife.

Disturbia took an estimated $13.5m (6.8m), while Fracture went in at number two with $11.2m (5.6m).

Ice-skating comedy Blades of Glory fell to three, and new in fourth place was Vacancy, a horror story set in a motel.

Blades of Glory starred Will Ferrell and Jon Heder, and Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson were the couple trying to avoid being killed in Vacancy.

British police spoof Hot Fuzz went into the top 10 at number six.

It was made by the team behind horror parody Shaun of the Dead, including actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, and has already topped the UK's film chart.

Adam Brody played a heartbroken writer in drama In the Land of Women, the only other new entry, at number eight.

Chart-topper Disturbia has established 20-year-old Shia LaBeouf as a leading man in Hollywood.

His big break came as the star of the Disney Channel TV series Even Stevens.

"He has this appeal which I think works for the girls, obviously, who are big suspense fans," said DreamWorks spokesman Marvin Levy.

"Guys like him too, so that's a double plus," he told the Associated Press.
