Singer Beyonce Knowles has secured the most nominations ahead of the US Soul Train Music Awards. She is up for best female single and best music video for Irreplaceable as well as best female album for B'Day.
Mary J Blige secured two nominations, for best female R&B-soul single for Take Me As I Am, and for best female R&B-soul album for The Breakthrough.
John Legend, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo and Yung Joc also received two nominations for next month's awards in California.
Legend was nominated for best male album and single, the categories he won last year.
Best dance
Brown was also nominated for best male single, for Yo (Excuse Me Miss) and best male album for Chris Brown.
One of this year's newcomers, Ne-Yo, was nominated for best male single for Sexy Love and as best new artist.
Yung Joc was also nominated for best new artist and best dance cut for It's Goin' Down.
The awards will be announced on 10 March at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, California.
