British actress Helen Mirren has earned three nominations at the Golden Globes, including two nominations for TV roles and best actress for The Queen. The Queen is also shortlisted for best dramatic film, and Stephen Frears received a best director nomination.
His rivals include Clint Eastwood, who received two nominations for Letters From Iwo Jima and Flags of Our Fathers.
Multi-stranded drama Babel leads the field with seven nominations, including best director and best dramatic film.
Unlike the Oscars, the Globes - handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association - have separate categories for dramas, and comedies or musicals.
Rivals to the best dramatic film award include Bobby, crime thriller The Departed and Little Children, which earned Britain's Kate Winslet a nomination for best actress in a drama.

Dreamgirls, about a trio of female soul singers trying to make it in the 1960s, scored five nominations, including best actress for Beyonce Knowles and best supporting actor for Eddie Murphy.
But there was no recognition for Paul Greengrass's 11 September drama United 93, which recently won the New York critics' prize.

Sacha Baron Cohen's film Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is shortlisted for best comedy or musical film, and also won its star a nomination for best comedy/musical actor.
Baron Cohen's rivals include Johnny Depp for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Aaron Eckhart for Thank You For Smoking, Britain's Chiwetel Ejiofor for Kinky Boots and Will Ferrell for Stranger Than Fiction.
Other films up for best comedy or musical film are The Devil Wears Prada, Dreamgirls, Little Miss Sunshine and Thank You For Smoking.
Actor Leonardo DiCaprio triumphed in the acting field, with two nominations in the best actor in a drama category, for Blood Diamond and The Departed.
He faces competition from Forest Whitaker for his role as dictator Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland, who is arguably the favourite to win.
Will Smith is also recognised for his portrayal of a struggling salesman in The Pursuit of Happyness and British star Peter O'Toole is included for his role in Venus.
Dame Judi Dench joins fellow Brits Kate Winslet and Helen Mirren in the best dramatic actress race for her role in Notes On A Scandal, an adaptation of Zoe Heller's best-selling book.

This year marks a first for the Globes with a new animation category, with Disney's Cars, tap-dancing penguin movie Happy Feet and Monster House sharing the honours.
It was announced last month that actor and director Warren Beatty will receive the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award at the ceremony next month.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Los Angeles on 15 January.
