Danielle Spencer and Russell Crowe got married in 2003

The baby, weighing about eight pounds, was named Tennyson Spencer Crowe after 19th Century poet Alfred Lord Tennyson.

He was born at Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital, Crowe's manager Grant Vandenberg said.

"Mother, father and baby are doing extremely well," Mr Vandenberg said. The couple's first son, Charlie, was born in December 2003.

"Charlie has a brother," Crowe told a commercial radio station in Australia early on Friday.

"Dani is great, mate, everybody is fine. The family is over there giving her big kisses and stuff. I am just going home to pick up Charlie to take him over to meet his new baby."

Tennyson was born just before 0730 local time on Friday (2130 GMT Thursday), he added.

"We will call him Tenny for short," Crowe said, adding that they decided on the name "mainly because it's just different".

Crowe, who was given a one-year conditional discharge after throwing a phone that hit a hotel concierge in New York last year, has said being a father has changed his outlook on life.

'Glorious' life

"From the moment he [Charlie] arrived, my perspective just changed, my priorities changed," he said.

"I'm very involved in being a dad. My days, if they start in the morning with a cuddle from my son, are just so much more glorious than they were prior to that."

Crowe, 41, started dating Spencer when they met on the set of The Crossing in 1990.

They split five years later when Crowe left Australia for Hollywood, where he had a high-profile relationship with actress Meg Ryan before returning to Spencer.
