DJ Steve Lamacq is to be one of four presenters of a programme which will champion new music in a schedule overhaul at BBC Radio 1.

He will host the Monday edition of In New Music We Trust, with Tim Westwood, Jo Whiley and Pete Tong in charge on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Radio 1 promised the show would become a "one-stop guide" to different genres.

Lamacq lost his current slot to Colin Murray but will continue to present his daily show on digital station 6Music.

The programmes will be broadcast at 2100 each evening, offering details of "everything that's happening in a particular genre fronted by the experts in that field", the station said.

Last week, Radio 1 announced major changes to its specialist music programming.

Murray will host a youth music show from Mondays to Thursdays at 2200, and Fridays will see the introduction of a 1Xtra showcase, playing the best in new black music.

Most of the schedule changes will come into effect on 25 September.

Lamacq is a passionate supporter of live music and was a journalist for NME before moving into broadcasting.

He hosted Radio 1's long-running new music show The Evening Session from 1993 to 2002.

His current programme is Lamacq Live, which runs from 2100 to 0100 on Mondays.
