Lucy Benjamin had been the bookmakers' favourite to win |
Former EastEnders star Lucy Benjamin, who played Lisa in the BBC soap, has won X Factor: Battle of the Stars. The actress beat England and Bath rugby player Matt Stevens after performing Donna Summer's Last Dance and See the Day, recently a hit for Girls Aloud.
Benjamin said she was "shocked" at winning after admitting she could not sing a note before the ITV show began.
TV diet guru Gillian McKeith, model Michelle Marsh and DJ Chris Moyles were among the other stars who took part.
Following her win, Benjamin said: "It's nuts. I can't believe it.
"It's just a massive achievement to have gone from not being able to sing a note to winning the show."
Judge Louis Walsh told her after she performed her first song of the night: "In one week you have gone from contestant to contender."
And Sharon Osbourne said: "You owned that stage you were so confident."
'Disappointed'
Matt Stevens performed Frank Sinatra standards New York New York and Mack the Knife.
"I am a little bit disappointed but I guess that's what the show's about," he said after his defeat.
Benjamin had been 1/2 favourite to win the final with bookmakers William Hill, with Stevens at odds of 6/4.
The celebrity contestants raised money for charity by appearing on the show.
Magician Paul Daniels, Rebecca Loos and Coronation Street star Nikki Sanderson were among the other celebrities who had already been knocked out.
