Radio Times readers can choose between four covers this week |
A 1955 painting of the Queen by Italian artist Pietro Annigoni has topped a poll of Her Majesty's best portraits. To celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's 80th birthday, the Radio Times asked its readers to choose a favourite from 10 portraits of the reigning monarch.
More than 4,000 voted, with Annigoni's portrait of the recently crowned Queen in her garter robes named the winner.
A 60th birthday painting by Michael Leonard of the Queen with one of her corgis came second in the survey.
Rolf Harris' "impressionistic" 2005 portrait came third, while another Australian painter - William Dargie - came fourth with his 1954 painting of the Queen wearing her crown.
Four editions of this week's Radio Times will be published this week, offering readers a choice between the top four portraits.
Celebrities
Andy Warhol's 1985 pop-art interpretation came fifth in the survey, ahead of works by Lydia de Burgh, Herbert James Gunn and Lucien Freud.
In this week's Radio Times, celebrities including Bruce Forsyth, Jeremy Irons and Paul O'Grady remember their meetings with the Queen.
The magazine also talks to three documentary producers whose films have explored Her Majesty's private life.
The Queen turns 80 on 21 April and celebrates her official birthday on 17 June.
