Winfrey's US TV show is watched by 30 million viewers each week |
TV host Oprah Winfrey is launching a US radio station, to include a weekly show presented by her. Oprah and Friends will go on air in September after Winfrey secured a $55m (31m) deal with XM Satellite Radio.
The station will also include programmes featuring personalities from Winfrey's TV talk show and magazine O.
"After you sign a deal with the likes of Oprah, we see nothing else on the horizon of this magnitude," XM Chief Executive Officer Hugh Panero said.
The move comes after rival operator Sirius Satellite Radio signed a five-year $500m (286m) contract with US shock radio personality Howard Stern.
The Oprah Winfrey Show, watched by 30 million TV viewers each week in the US, has been America's highest-rated talk show for 18 consecutive series.
Winfrey has also co-produced a musical of The Color Purple which is currently showing on Broadway.
