Talk show host Oprah Winfrey has awarded two women $50,000 (28,700) each for helping police find a fugitive sex offender. Karie Miller and Jean Rosenthal reported that William Carl Davis lived in an apartment in Fargo, North Dakota.
Mr Davis is also accused of child molestation and failing to register as a sex offender after previous child molestation convictions.
Ms Rosenthal recognised Mr Davis from an appeal on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
Brother's name
Ms Miller subsequently told FBI agents that Mr Davis lived above her family's apartment.
"This is why I say you were so courageous, because you know what courage is," Winfrey told the two friends on Tuesday's edition of her programme.
"It's being scared but doing it anyway."
Mr Davis, 33, had used an Indiana birth certificate and driving licence to obtain a North Dakota driving licence in his brother's name.
He lived in Fargo since August 2004, where he worked as a maintenance man.
Mr Davis previously served two-and-a-half years in prison for child molestation.
He was arrested on Sunday, charged with 10 further counts of child molestation and failure to register as a sex offender.
