Pop star Avril Lavigne, 20, has become engaged to Deryck Whibley, lead singer of rock band Sum 41. The Canadian singer's publicist did not reveal if a date had yet been set for the couple's wedding.
Lavigne, who has recently been touring Europe, is best-known for her hits Complicated and Sk8er Boi.
Her debut album, released in 2002, has sold six million copies in the US, while she promoted her follow-up with a tour of Canadian shopping malls.
Sum 41's recent album Chuck recently achieved gold status in the US.
The band have scored six Top 40 singles in the UK, with debut Fat Lip their biggest hit to date, making number eight.
The couple, who both grew up in Ontario, starting dating early in 2004 after a lengthy friendship.
Whibley reportedly popped the question after Lavigne completed her European tour at the weekend.
