Lavigne has become a global star |
Canadian singer Avril Lavigne is to have one of her songs turned into a feature film. Her global hit Sk8er Boi, about failed love across the teen cultural divides, has been optioned by Paramount Pictures.
David Zabel, a writer and producer on the long-running series ER, is to turn the words of the song into a film.
The film is expected to have a large musical element in the mould of the 1980s films Flashdance and Footloose.
The song tells of a teenage punk who falls in love with a girl who does ballet.
Rock star
But his overtures are spurned because the girl feels her friends would not approve, although she secretly loves him too.

But the boy goes on to be a rock star and her chance is lost because she failed to "see the man that boy could be". The film will focus on the two teens from different backgrounds and the social constraints in which they find themselves.
Lavigne's writing team, Scott Spock, Lauren Christy and Graham Edwards, who co-wrote the song with the young singer will act as consultants on the screenplay.
They also will create an event album with new original songs around the movie and executive produce the soundtrack.
