The show features more than 30 Beach Boys songs

Good Vibrations, which is set around more than 30 Beach Boys tracks, received a poor reception from critics when it opened on 2 February.

It uses the tunes to tell the story of three best friends who leave the US east coast to go surfing in California.

But it has not fared as well as shows based around the hits of other groups such as Abba and Queen.

Variety magazine called Good Vibrations "amateurish" and a "wipeout" with a "chaotic sense of haphazard, try-anything desperation".

'Singing headache'

The New York Times described it as a "singing headache" that was "lumbering, brainless", "aimless" and "tacky".

"Good Vibrations sacrifices itself, night after night and with considerable anguish, to make all other musicals on Broadway look good," its critic wrote.

Beach Boys songs featured include Fun, Fun, Fun, Help Me Rhonda, Surf City, Be True to Your School, Surfin' USA and California Girls.

Directed by John Carrafa, it will have played 94 performances and six weeks of previews at the Eugene O'Neill Theater.
