Beach Boys musical for Broadway

A musical featuring songs by singing stars the Beach Boys is to open on Broadway, in New York, next year.

The show, called Good Vibrations, does not tell the story of the popular 1960s group, but will use 30 of their songs.

Based on a book, it follows the story of a group of small-town teenagers who travel to Southern California.

Among the songs expected to be used in the show are such Beach Boys' classics such Fun, Fun, Fun, California Girls and Surfin' Safari.

The musical will be directed and choreographed by John Carrafa.

Previews will begin at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre in New York in December. No official opening date has been confirmed but the show is expected to premiere in January.

The original Beach Boys - brothers Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson, their cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine - got their first recording contract in the summer of 1962.

Over the next few years they went on to enjoy massive success in the US and the UK with hits such as I Get Around, California Girls and God Only Knows.
