Colombian pop star Shakira has been nominated for six awards |
MTV has ended plans to stage its Latin American music video awards ceremony, which had been postponed due to Hurricane Wilma. An MTV statement said it had proved "impossible" to reorganise the event on Mexico's Caribbean coast.
The show was postponed last month hours before its planned start at a beach theme park, which remains closed after high winds and rain hit the coast.
The winners will be announced on a TV show next month.
The MTV statement said: "A show of this magnitude and complexity requires a great deal of planning and many months to organise, making it impossible for us to accomplish in only six weeks."
Widespread damage
The broadcaster said it would explore the possibility of holding next year's event on Mexico's Caribbean coast.
Hurricane Wilma caused major damage to hotels, beaches and homes along the coast.
The event had been due to take place at the Xcaret park, near the beach resort of Playa del Carmen.
At least 17 people were killed across the Caribbean by Hurricane Wilma, which also left thousands stranded in often-crowded emergency shelters.
