Womack's latest album marked a return to her country roots |
Lee Ann Womack was the big winner at the Country Music Awards in New York walking away with three trophies, including album of the year. There's More Where That Came From saw the 39-year-old singer return to her country roots after flirting with pop music-inspired material.
Womack also took the single of the year and best musical event awards.
The ceremony, which usually takes place in Nashville, switched venues in a bid to give country music a wider appeal.
A Garth Brooks tribute performance to the late Chris LeDoux - broadcast to the ceremony from New York's Times Square - was among the show's highlights.
Elton John performed two songs with Dolly Parton at the event.
And a number of non-country names including Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Bon Jovi and Norah Jones also made live appearances.
Emerging talent
Keith Urban was among the other award winners, taking entertainer of the year and male vocalist.

Gretchen Wilson was named best female vocalist, Toby Keith scooped music video of the year for As Good As I Once Was, and Dierks Bentley picked up the Horizon Award for emerging artists.
Writer Jon Randall and Bill Anderson won song of the year for Whiskey Lullaby, sung by Alison Krauss and Brad Paisley.
But there was disappointment for Brad Paisley fans. The singer went home empty-handed, despite being among the leading contenders for an award with six nominations.
