Basinger and Baldwin separated in 2000 and divorced in 2002 |
Actors Alec Baldwin and his ex-wife Kim Basinger have traded personal insults in an ongoing custody dispute over their 10-year-old daughter Ireland. In court papers, Baldwin said Basinger had a "pathological need" to turn their daughter against him and requested she undergo a psychological evaluation.
Basinger's lawyers, meanwhile, said he had "severe emotional problems" and was casting "terrible aspersions".
Both parties are scheduled to return to court in Los Angeles on 13 December.
Basinger and Baldwin separated in 2000 after seven years of marriage and divorced in 2002.
The former lives in Los Angeles, while the latter resides in New York.
'Contaminated'
"Ms Basinger has so contaminated this child now that she doesn't even want to be with her father," said Baldwin's lawyer Vicki Greene on Monday.
Outside court, however, Basinger's lawyer Neal Hersh said his client's ex-husband was ignoring "the main issue, which is his daughter" by questioning the actress' mental health.
Baldwin, 47, was not at Monday's hearing, which discussed his "telephone time" with Ireland and whether he should get an extra weekend with her to make up for a holiday that will be interrupted by a future court hearing.
Basinger, 51, was present but declined to comment outside the courtroom.
Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Maren Nelson said she found no reason to alter the custody agreement.
She made no ruling on the psychological evaluation request.
