Basinger files for divorce

Basinger: Currently starring in horror movie Bless This Child
One of Hollywood's most celebrated couples, Oscar-winning actress Kim Basinger and actor Alec Baldwin, have filed for divorce after seven years of marriage.

Basinger cited "irreconcilable differences" with her husband in the divorce petition, which said the couple separated last month.

They have a five-year-old daughter, Ireland, who currently lives with Basinger.

The actress requested that the court should officially give them joint custody of the child, but asked that Ireland continue to live with her.

She is also is requesting alimony, the amount of which is not known.

Second divorce

This is the second divorce for Basinger, who married make-up artist Ron Britton in 1980. They divorced in 1989.

Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin were married on 19 August 1993, after meeting on the set of the romantic comedy, The Marrying Man, in 1991.

Basinger won an Oscar for best supporting actress in 1998 for her role in LA Confidential.

Baldwin's credits include The Hunt for Red October, The Edge, and the newly released State and Main.

He and Basinger starred alongside each other in The Getaway.
