McCartney hurt his elbow but was able to continue the concert |
Sir Paul McCartney fell through an open trapdoor while performing onstage in Tampa, Florida. The 63-year-old fell onto a grand piano being raised into position behind him.
But although he banged his elbow he was able to complete the concert - part of a 37-city US tour to promote new album Chaos and Creation in the Backyard.
"There's a big hole in the stage and I just fell into it," he said, joking the 18,000 members of the audience had got "extra value" for their money.
'Big fence'
"We were expecting this to happen and it happened," he added after the incident on Saturday. "I want a big fence 'round here tomorrow."
McCartney performs his next concert in Atlanta, Georgia, on Tuesday.
"He wasn't seriously hurt and was able to continue," his spokeswoman told the BBC News website.
The tour - which will includes concerts in New York, Chicago and a first time visit to Nebraska - ends in Los Angeles on 29 November.
