Pop star Michael Jackson has broken his silence on his child abuse trial, describing it as "the hardest thing I've ever done in my life".

The singer has not spoken publicly since sending a message to fans in June, shortly after being cleared of molesting a young boy.

In a brief interview with the Associated Press news agency, he said he was still "resting and recovering".

The star is staying in Bahrain and said he was "feeling good".

He added he was "moving full speed ahead" with plans to record a charity single for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

'Constantly working'

Jackson's spokeswoman has said Mariah Carey, James Brown and Snoop Dogg are among the big names set to appear on the song, although the line-up has not been finalised.

"I'm constantly working on it," Jackson told the Associated Press.

He travelled to Bahrain shortly after the verdict and was recently photographed smiling in Dubai.

The star's 19-month legal ordeal ended in June when he was found not guilty on 10 charges of plying a teenage boy with alcohol and abusing him.

He made several trips to hospital during and after the trial, complaining of "flu-like symptoms", dehydration and back problems.

In June, he told fans: "Your ever-present love held me, dried my tears, and carried me through."
