A record 21,000 tickets have been sold for the Turner Whistler Monet exhibition at London's Tate Britain gallery which opens on Thursday. It has broken the Tate's previous advance tickets sales record of 13,500 for the Hopper show last year.
The show has already attracted more than 500,000 visitors during its time in Paris.
The show focuses on the trio's depictions of the Thames, the Seine in Paris and the lagoon of Venice.
"Artistic interchange"
"These three artists each changed the course of landscape paintings and this exhibition traces for the first time the dialogue between them," a Tate spokesman said.
"Whistler and Monet were friends and collaborators who shared a deep admiration for the work of Turner.
"On close examination, a pattern of themes and variations begun by Turner appears to have been developed in the artistic interchange between the younger artists Whistler and Monet."
One of the highlights of the show will be Whistler's Nocturne in Blue and Silver: The Lagoon, Venice which has never been shown in the UK before.
The exhibition runs until 15 May.
