Robbie Williams, Sir Ian McKellen, Bill Nighy, Joanna Lumley and Tom Baker also help voice the movie, which is released in UK cinemas on 11 February.

Others stars who attended the premiere in London's West End included actress Denise Van Outen and DJ Jo Whiley.

The original series of The Magic Roundabout was created for French TV in the mid-1960s.

It was adapted into English, with actress Emma Thompson's father Eric creating the programme's storylines and characterisation. The show was broadcast on the BBC from 1965 to 1977.

The show was revived by Channel 4 in the early 1990s, when all the voices were supplied by actor Nigel Planer, most famous for playing Neil in TV show The Young Ones.

New look

The old favourites of the hit children's television series will be joined by new characters in the film, using computer-generated graphics.

Singer Robbie Williams voices shaggy-haired dog Dougal, while actress Joanna Lumley and actor Sir Ian McKellen provide the voices for Ermintrude the Cow and Zebedee.

Ray Winstone is the voice behind a new character called Soldier Sam.
