 Steve Carrell stars in The 40-Year-Old Virgin |
Film comedy The 40-Year-Old Virgin has beaten Wes Craven's thriller Red Eye to top the UK box office. The 40-Year-Old Virgin, which features Steve Carrell, TV star of the US version of The Office sitcom, took �1.7m in its opening weekend.
Red Eye's takings for its first three days were �891,582, putting it in second place.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, at number three, has now taken �35m since its release six weeks ago.

The Dukes of Hazzard slipped to number four after spending one week at the top, taking �618,448 over the weekend period.
The only other new entry was Brit gangster movie The Business, which is set in on the Costa del Sol.
Directed by Nick Love, it took �53,1267 over the weekend, placing it at number five in the chart.
Other films in the top 10 included the critically-acclaimed Crash, TV remake Bewitched and Herbie: Fully Loaded.
