Closer holds firm at box office

Romantic drama Closer has stayed top of the UK's box office chart, with the top five films unchanged for a second week.

Taking �1.6m at the weekend, Closer extended its lead over Team America in second place, followed by White Noise, The Aviator and Million Dollar Baby.

New releases were pushed out of the top five, with superhero movie Elektra entering in sixth and Ray, about late soul star Ray Charles, in seventh.

John Travolta's firefighting drama Ladder 49 was another entry at nine.

Closer stars Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Clive Owen and Natalie Portman in a tangled love web and has picked up a string of awards and nominations.
