Catherwood spent time as the presenter of Five news |
ITV news presenter Andrea Catherwood has given birth to twin boys six weeks prematurely, it has been announced. The 37-year-old, from Belfast, had a caesarian delivery due to complications in her pregnancy. The identical boys are said to be doing well.
A spokeswoman for the presenter said: "Andrea is delighted" and had called the babies "gorgeous".
"It was clearly a very stressful time, and although they are very small they are doing well."
The spokeswoman added: "The babies are currently being well looked after in intensive care and doctors are monitoring their progress."
The twin boys had been suffering from twin-to-twin transfusion, where two babies share one placenta and one receives more nutrients than the other.
Catherwood rejoined the ITV news team in 2004 after a stint fronting Five News.
In 2001 while reporting from Afghanistan, she was injured in a suicide attack carried out by the Taleban.
