Little Britain DVD sales top 2004
Matt Lucas and David Walliams
Little Britain has won several awards
BBC comedy Little Britain was the biggest-selling DVD TV series during the last year.

More than 1.3m copies of the first series of the hit BBC show - starring Matt Lucas and David Walliams - were sold in the UK.

The success of other BBC shows - such as Strictly Come Dancing - also helped BBC Worldwide to reach record profits of 55m for 2004-5.

The ballroom dancing show has been sold to 14 countries, including the US.

'Great success'

BBC Worldwide sells the corporation's products and programmes across the globe, including television programmes, DVDs, books, magazines and audio.

An increase in magazine circulation and sales of TV formats and shows are partly responsible for their 50% increase in profits.

Mark Thompson, director-general of the BBC, said: "I am delighted to see BBC Worldwide producing such excellent results and delivering more cash back to the BBC.

"This success reflects Worldwide's ability to create products and services which people in the UK enjoy," he said.

He added that BBC Worldwide provided an "important showcase" internationally for the "best" of UK culture and creativity.
