Free cruises for TV show audience
Ellen DeGeneres
Ellen DeGeneres' show was broadcast in the US on Wednesday
US talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres has given every member of her studio audience a free cruise.

A total of 250 people - all family or friends of US troops serving in Iraq - were given the surprise during a recording of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The gifts were given so the troops could enjoy a holiday on their return, a spokeswoman for the show said.

It follows a September instalment of Oprah Winfrey's programme in which she gave 276 cars to her audience.

DeGeneres's show was recorded on Tuesday, with actor Tom Hanks as the guest, and broadcast on Wednesday.

The 250 seven-day cruises for four, plus taxes and fees, were given to those connected to troops from three Californian bases - Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Camp Pendleton and Fort Irwin.
