Pop group Girls Aloud's cover version of the Pretenders' I'll Stand By You is the UK's new number one single. The original reached number 10 in 1994, and the group - formed two years ago on ITV1's Popstars - re-recorded it for the BBC's Children In Need appeal.
Last week's number one, U2's Vertigo, slumped to number seven, while Lemar, Gwen Stefani and McFly also had new entries in the top five.
Eminem remains at number one in the album chart with Encore.
Destiny's Child's Lose My Breath remains at number two, while Lemar's If There's Any Justice is a new entry at number three.

No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani has a solo hit at number four with What You Waiting For, while boy band McFly have another new entry at number five with Room On The 3rd Floor. Other new entries include Embrace's Ashes at number 11, while the White Stripes' cover version of Dolly Parton's Jolene, recorded live in Blackpool earlier this year, enters at number 16.
There was little movement in this week's album chart, with new entries for Destiny's Child with Destiny Fulfilled at number five, and Blue's Best of... collection at number six.
But Keane - who feature on the Band Aid 20 single Do They Know It's Christmas? - saw their debut Hopes And Fears re-enter the top 10 at number nine after six months on the chart.
Singer Donny Osmond - who in September scored his first solo top 10 single in over 30 years - saw his new album What I Meant To Say enter the chart at number 26.
