Zeta aids Clooney's election bid

Zeta Jones is to appear in the forthcoming movie Ocean's Twelve
Actress Catherine Zeta Jones has made a contribution to the election campaign of George Clooney's father Nick, who is standing for Congress in the US.

Zeta Jones, who is starring with Clooney in Ocean's Twelve, joins actor Warren Beatty and singer Nancy Sinatra in helping to fund the Democrat's bid.

Details of the donations are revealed in a fund-raising report filed with the Federal Election Commission.

Nick Clooney is the brother of the late singer-actress Rosemary Clooney.

Earlier Zeta Jones' husband, Michael Douglas. and actresses Renee Zellweger, Courteney Cox Arquette and Drew Barrymore added their support to Mr Clooney's campaign.

'Commonsense Democrat'

The fund-raising report shows that Mr Clooney, who has raised about $825,000 (�440,000), had slightly more than $600,000 (�320,000) cash to hand.

His Republican opponent, Geoff Davis, reported about $720,000 (�384,000) cash to hand at the end of last month.

Nick Clooney is Democratic candidate for the Fourth District seat of retiring US representative Ken Lucas in Kentucky.

The 70-year-old Clooney is a former television anchor man and newspaper columnist. He is a self-described "commonsense Democrat" who opposes abortion and supports the rights of gun owners.
