Sutherland won critical acclaim for his role as Jack Bauer in 24

A spokesman said the 37-year-old son of veteran actor Donald Sutherland filed papers on Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Sutherland and Elizabeth Kelly Winn cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their divorce.

The couple, who have no children, have been separated since 1999, added Sutherland's publicist.

The London-born actor, who rose to fame in films such as the 1987 teenage vampire film The Lost Boys, also starred in Flatliners with his former fianc�e Julia Roberts.

Sutherland has a daughter from a previous relationship with actress Camelia Kath.

He won a Golden Globe award for best actor in a drama series on television for his role as Jack Bauer in 24 and an Emmy nomination for best actor in a drama series.
